On Tuesday coming the Presbytery of San Diego will vote on an overture to the 219th GA. Of course these folks had a shorter ride home than the rest of us but they didn't waste any time getting up some legislation to express their opinion.
Their opinion is that "We disagree with the actions taken by the 218th General Assembly regarding ordination standards." And they want an AI making it clear that the standards exclude homosexuals. In their documentation, they say that until that's done the Presbytery will withold all unrestricted funding and they will encourage the churches to also do so. So the beat goes on. The Presbyterian Global Fellowship is meeting in CA next week and they created a sort of leaving in place strategy. They won't leave but they won't give either-it's a little unclear to me whether they accept per capita giving which is really an obligation of the Presbytery. Their idea is that there won't be any fight over property because they're not leaving. And they can still go to GA and complain.
One wonders whether we'll just disappear 3% at a time or have a massive split thanks to one side getting a complete upper hand.
