The 218th General Assembly got a lot of people's attention. The Presbyterian Global Fellowship meeting in California had a lot of grumbling and a lot of it was taken out on Linda Valentine who apparently just took it for a difference of opinion. In her defense, she had nothing to do with what the 218th did-GAC just carries out the mandates of the GA. Why she goes to a meeting of an organization whose primary idea is to withhold funding from her is testament to the desperation in the denomination.
Our presbytery offerred to send a team to any church that wanted to hear more about the 218th and only 3 churches asked. The clerk in my church distributed the offer to all 30 of the active elders and no one spoke up. So all this weeping and wailing is related to something other than the conservativeness of the presbytery.
I went with our EP to one of the three churches who asked for a presentation. They were concerned but that was about it.
There is a growing understanding that the General Assembly is dysfunctional. I've often wondered why no one seems to think about why that is and do something about it. I've come to believe that some folks just go ballistic and don't think at all. It's all emotion with them and the only thing they can think to do is pass an overture to overturn the overture. And some folks don't give a hoot.
Our leadership has failed us.
